CONTEMPORARY CULTURE AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
NOVA University of Lisbon | ICNOVA – Institute of Communication
The question concerning the digital, which has only begun, is crucial for understanding the anthropological, ecological, and cosmological crisis of the present and resisting a one-way universalisation of technology. This requires that we be able to imagine alternative futures but also that we concern ourselves with the digital and bring meaning to this transient and transformative time.
The digital transition is primordially a transformation of human cognitive and creative ecology, which is growingly composed of computational media, AI, and automation. Understanding the new technologies of thinking, agency and imagination, as well as their implications, calls for a post-humanistic turn of the humanities in all its epistemic, political, and aesthetic dimensions.
