OP5 Workshop Bishop

MAY – JUNE 2025

Workshop: Art and the Politics of Spectatorship: from digital divide to digital ecology

This workshop proposes to explore some of Claire Bishop’s central writings, covering key topics in her work, such as participatory and social art, intermediality and performativity in contemporary art. By calling upon one of the main lines of her research – the analysis of the cultural, political and technical conditions of perception and attention, we aim to understand the virtualities and disruptions of contemporary aesthetic experience, as well as the possibility of its reparation and, through it, the care of our relation to the world.

Claire Bishop teaches at the Graduate School of the City University of New York (CUNY), and she is one of the most relevant historians and theorists of contemporary art of our time. Her original thinking and body of work are widely acknowledged in academia and art criticism.
